The project titled Central and Eastern Africa Female Health-Oriented Modeling Epidemic Consortium (called CAFHOMEC) is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented by five African countries (Cameroon, Tanzania, Central African Republic, DRC and South Africa). It is hosted by the University of Dschang (UDs) in Cameroon.
Our primary mission is to combat health issues that disproportionately affect women and girls, starting from human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and related complications such as cervical cancer, as well as understanding the intertwined relationship between HPV and HIV . We are committed to developing ground-rooted data-driven mathematical and statistical models to inform optimal public health decision-making decisions in some Sub-saharan African countries on the effective and affordable vaccination and screening strategies to prevent the spread of HPV and related diseases. Additionally, we raise awareness and educate the community about the risks associated with HPV and encourage vaccination against HPV and treatment for HIV.
Our vision is a world where women and girls live a better life free of controlable diseases such as cervical cancer, which is controlled through effective prevention and treatment measures. We aspire to international collaboration to share best practices and the latest scientific advancements. More importantly, we believe in equitable access to educational training and modeling on health issues that disproportionately affect women and adolescent girls.
We are dedicated to scientific excellence by conducting rigorous research and utilizing cutting-edge mathematical models. Integrity guides our actions, emphasizing honesty, transparency, and respect for our partners and the community. Ultimately, we measure our success by the positive impact we have on public health and young female students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
